History of this set

This set needed only to be cleaned and polished. It worked straight from the junk shop!

This used to be in the unknown section as it has no label or name badge to it. I received this information from Paul King

"Your transistor portable "Unknown 1" is a kit set called the "Contessa", available from various sources in about 1961: I've a June '61 copy of Practical Wireless in front of me and both Henry's Radio of Harrow Road, London, and Radio Clearance Ltd. of Tottenham Court Road advertise it prominently. I suspect the chassis design was by Plessey: as you say, the Alba 22 used the same board, as did more than one Defiant model."
