History of this set

I swapped this set with a friend for my Beau Decca as he had 2 of these!. It needed a lot of electrical work but fortunately my friend had stripped and re-polished the cabinet. You can see the stunning veneers. It is such a shame these beautiful pieces of furniture get broken up for their amplifiers. The set has a 3 speed, 10 record autochanger. Not the original, which only played 78's. This RC80 is a good compromise as it is period but much more useable. I do need a cartridge for it, a 3000R moving iron. For now, I have used a NOS crystal cartridge, which gives great volume and sound..

Part of my collection

This set had been converted in the past to run on EL34's and semiconductor rectifiers.

The original wiring has been restored and the correct type of valves fitted. I have finished the restoration with original PP3/250's and I have compared the set to another. It hums with the volume control down. Not as good as the Beau Decca in my view.

if you have any clues as to why this hum should be there, please let me know.
