History of this set
It pays to keep looking, eventually they turn up. No cracks or chips, the back is in good condition, the speaker cloth original and not torn. I got rid of all the paint marks and polished the set with Bake-O-Brite. It now looks like new.
This set has a low serial number and was made at the beginning of the war about 1940. Post war models have a separate on/off switch. There are other subtle electronic differences as well.
The valves were missing when I got it. These were fitted and as a precaution, the mains filter capacitors were replaced as the old ones tend to go "bang". Previously, the main electrolytics had been replaced. I replaced them again with a more suitable version. Powered up and it works very well. People say these sets don't sound very good. This one certrainly does.
